We Become Our Practices
You don’t always need a reason for doing the practices that you do. Sometimes, our practice has a specific goal like flexibility, strength, or stress reduction. Other times, we practice simply because it is our nature to do so.
In many Yogic philosophies, “separation” is an illusion of the mind, and connection is the universal truth. When there is no separation between us and our practices, our practices become who we are. We are no longer practicing for flexibility, strength, or stress reduction — we practice because it is who we are. The practice then becomes the bridge between who we were and who we will become.
The practice of Yoga is a living entity within those who practice. Eventually, everything in our life becomes practice; there is no separation. We don’t seek connection only in the spiritual mind or in deep meditation — we live by connection. And it’s in this way that the practices within Yoga will continue to be reborn over the course of time.
“Is this Yoga?”
I think a more worthwhile question is: “Is this part of my practice?”
