A Little Blurb on Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyāsa = special placement. In the modern culture, it’s often interpreted as “breath to movement” or even the chaturanga-updog-down dog transition. None of these are wrong, but the direct translation of vinyāsa refers to special placement or intentional arrangement of the body.

When we understand this, vinyāsa becomes an open-ended approach to movement rather than a narrow style of practice. There’s no requirement to string 8+ poses on top of each other, and there’s also no requirement to include a single chaturanga if you don’t want to.

I’ve taught nearly 4,000 classes at this point, and my approach continues to evolve. The practice is so open source that there are endless possibilities. I’ve been embracing simplicity for the past year, and the simplicity has made me feel more creative and authentic than ever. It’s a season of pattern, slow breaths, repetition, and rebirth. Hope y’all have fun with it if you come to class!
